If you like dogs, you won’t want to miss the United Kennel Club Premier Dog Show in Kalamazoo this weekend. It’s not your typical dog show of perfectly groomed puffballs that strut around the ring.
How about dogs competing in weight pull competitions? Or terrier races? (Pretty sure my dog would win that one.)
It starts Friday and will run through Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, at the Kalamazoo County Expo Center and Fairground. The cost is per car, $5 per car each day or $10 for the weekend.
On Friday, events will kick off with agility competitions, as well as obedience trials. Following are the terrier race and a dock-jumping event. A lure coursing event and a weight pull round out the evening. The rest of the weekend has a similar lineup.
What do you think? I always get a kick out of seeing dogs perform agility trials at some of the shows I’ve seen. My dog is pretty strong and pretty fast, but I know she can’t jump as far as some of these dogs. And can you imagine the hours that must go into training one of these dogs?
If you go, let us know what it was like!
