So apparently in Cleveland Ohio, a 300lb woman, Mia Landingham, sat on her 120lb boyfriend and the father of her 3 children, Mikal Middleton-Bey, and killed him. Landingham pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, and got 3 years probation and 100 hours of community service. Her boyfriend’s family doesn’t feel as though justice was served, because she has just killed their family member and isn’t going to jail at all.
Does this story shock anyone else??? So many things come to my mind when I think about this story.
How do you tell your children how they father died? “Oh, I sat on him and crushed him to death.” How awkward and twisted is that? But unfortunately that is the reality for Mia Landingham. The news reported that the couple was in an altercation when it happened, but another news story said it was a crime of passion. Hmmmm, like they were having sex, she got on top and literally rocked his world? Another report says that Mia sat on him face first on the couch.
When I was a child, kids would say mean things about overweight people like, “Don’t mess with her man, she’ll sit on you and squash you!” But to think that it can actually happen just blows my mind. This story is sad, because it also brings up the obesity issue in America. And I know that Mia didn’t mean to kill him, but how did she not notice? I’m no size 1 by far, but I think I would be able to notice if someone is not breathing, I’m sure he must have cried out or something to let her know that he was really getting hurt, but if she was sitting on his face that would be extremely difficult to do. But if they were in a fist fight and she sat on him to protect herself, would you get up?
